Three future UVA men’s and women’s basketball recruits have been nominated for the McDonald’s All-American games.

Blake Buchanan of Lake City High School in Idaho, who signed with the Cavaliers in November, has been nominated to the boys team, while a pair of Virginia women’s team signees, Olivia McGhee and Kymora Johnson, have been nominated for the girls team. A total of 722 girls and boys have been nominated for the teams.

Buchanan is a 6-foot-10 center, who along with fellow four-star recruit Elijah Gertrude of Jersey City, N.J., comprise the UVA men’s recruiting class. The last Cavalier to make the McDonald’s All-America team was Kyle Guy in 2016.

Meanwhile, Charlottesville’s Johnson, a 5-7 guard from St. Anne’s-Belfield, is ranked the No. 24 player in the 2023 recruiting class by HoopGurlz, and is the No. 1 rated prospect in the state. McGhee is a 6-2 guard from Louisa and is playing presently at IMG Academy in Florida. She’s a four-star and ranked No. 45 in the nation by HoopGurlz.

Johnson and McGhee have given UVA the 15th-best recruiting class in the country, according to HoopGurlz rankings.
