Virginia’s busy weekend continued as the Cavaliers added three more players from the transfer portal, making seven for the weekend (see related story) and 28 from the portal thus far.
The newest names are Tyson Davis, a slot receiver from Central Michigan and offensive lineman Ryan Brubaker from South Carolina and Jonathan Allen, a defensive lineman from UAB.
Here’s the skinny:
Tyson Davis: A 5-10, 175-pound receiver with one year of eligibility remaining. He visited Saturday, committed over the weekend.
Davis appeared in 27 games with seven starts over four years at Central Michigan, hauling in a career-total 57 receptions for 821 yards (14.4 ypc) and seven touchdowns.
This past season, he played in 13 games with three starts and caught 25 passes for 323 yards and two scores. He had a season-high five receptions for 53 yards vs. Northwestern in CMU’s bowl game. He also caught three passes vs. Michigan and two vs. Pitt.
Davis missed the entire 2024 season with an injury, but in 2023 played in 10 games with four starts and led the team in receiving yards (444), TDs (4) and receptions (29 … 15.3 ypc). He had two catches for 40 yards vs. Notre Dame.
In 2022, he played minimally in four games and redshirted in 2021.
Ryan Brubaker: A 6-6, 313-pound redshirt senior for South Carolina’s Gamecocks, whose career was hampered by injuries.
Brubaker was injured last spring and didn’t make it back until a late-season game against Coastal Carolina (11 snaps).
In 2024, he was the Gamecocks’ backup center and played 28 snaps over five games.
He missed the entire ‘23 season with a knee injury and didn’t play in 2022.
Brubaker was ranked the 16th-best prospect in Pennsylvania his senior year of high school by 247Sports.
Jonathan Allen: This 6-2, 290 defensive lineman from Alabama-Birmingham has two years of eligibility remaining after playing in 12 games and starting seven for the Blazers as a redshirt sophomore this past season. Allen had 34 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 sacks and a hurry. He certainly should add depth to John Rudzinski’s defensive front.
In 2024 as a redshirt freshman, Allen appeared in 11 games for UAB, mostly on special teams and as a reserve defensive lineman. In 2023, as a true freshman, he played in four games, the most without losing a year of eligibility.
