UVA earns at-large bid for NCAA Championship

The Virginia field hockey team earned one of eight at-large bids into the field of 18 teams for the 2022 NCAA Field Hockey Championship.

The Cavaliers (13-7) will take on Iowa (11-7) on Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. No. 2 seed Northwestern (17-4), the host team, will face the winner of a play-in game between Miami University (13-7) and Rider (15-5) at 1 p.m. on Friday. The winners of the two Friday games will play on Sunday at 2 p.m.

This is the 26th trip to NCAA Championship for the Cavaliers and their 14th in head coach Michele Madison’s 17 seasons at Virginia.

North Carolina, Maryland and Michigan will serve as the other three host sites for the first- and second-round games. The winner of each site will advance to the NCAA semifinals on Nov. 18 at UConn’s Sherman Complex in Storrs, Conn. The NCAA Championship game will take place on Nov. 20 at that same location.

Wednesday – Play-In Game
3 p.m. – Rider vs. Miami

Friday — 1st Round
1 p.m. – 2-seed Northwestern vs Rider/Miami
3:30 p.m. – Virginia vs Iowa

Sunday — 2nd Round
1 p.m. — Winner of Game 1 v. Winner of Game 2
