’27 O-Lineman sets visit to Virginia
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Carter Jones, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound, all-state lineman from Poquoson High School, announced Sunday that he will make an official visit to Virginia on Jan. 25. Jones is a sophomore (recruiting class of 2027).
Jones, who was only 15 years old when he received his first four scholarship offers from Old Dominion, Liberty, Delaware and William & Mary, had since been offered by Syracuse and Virginia. He was a high school freshman when ODU first offered.
National recruiting services normally don’t rank players that young, but Jones did receive a 4-star rating by “One11recruiting,” which ranked him the No. 12 overall prospect for his class nationally.
Jones was a first-team All-Bay Rivers District and a first-team all-state selection. He recently participated in the U.S. Army Bowl and national combine showcase in Texas a month ago.
Jones, who has a 4.0 gpa, runs a 5.3 in the 40, benches 325 and squats 405.
The two-way performer visited UVA in October and also this weekend.
He visited Clemson three times during football season and was hoping to receive an offer, but Clemson doesn’t begin offering players in Jones’ class until next summer.
