Virginia’s 7-foot center Johann Grünloh came roaring into the Cavaliers’ huddle during a late first-half timeout and bellowed out to his teammates that Richmond was stuck on 20 points and had been for several minutes as he urged them to keep their foot on the gas.

Grünloh was precise in his assessment. The visiting Spiders had once been up 20-12 on UVA until the Cavaliers reeled off 27 consecutive unanswered points in Friday night’s exhibition game. U of R went almost 8 1/2 minutes without scoring a point, as Virginia coasted to a 38-20 lead en route to a 96-53 win.
