Chase Hungate, a member of VCU’s Atlantic 10 baseball championship, announced this weekend via social media that he is transferring to Virginia.

Hungate, a rising sophomore, is a 6-foot, 175, right-handed pitcher and infielder from Abingdon. Although he does everything else left-handed, he pitches from the right and does so quite well.

As a freshman last season, Hungate tied for the Rams’ team lead in wins with a 6-4 record and 3.57 ERA. In 63 innings, (21 appearances out of VCU’s bullpen) he struck out 46 and walked 14.

At Abingdon High School, he was all-state, all-region, all-district, team MVP, Player of the Year an Times News Southwest Virginia Male Athlete of the Year.
