Virginia dropped game two of the weekend series at North Carolina by a score of 7-3 on Saturday at the Anderson Softball Stadium.
Virginia (12-20, 8-15 ACC) got a two-run home run from Abby Weaver (Roanoke, Va.) in the seventh inning, but was unable to continue the rally as North Carolina grabbed the win to even the series.
Aly Rayle (2-4) took the loss for the Cavaliers. Rayle (Herndon, Va.) allowed four runs – two of them earned – on three hits with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work. She did not walk a batter.
Katie Grace Olinger (1-3) picked up the win, allowing three runs – two of them earned – on six hits in the complete-game effort. She struck out one and walked three.
The Tar Heels (11-14, 7-8 ACC) used extra base hits in the first two innings to plate a pair of runs, getting a sac fly following a triple in the first and a solo home run in the second, before pushing two more runs home in the third.
The Cavaliers got on the board in the fifth when Emma McBride (Magnolia, Texas) delivered an RBI single to left, but North Carolina put three more runs on the board in the sixth. Virginia cut into the lead again with the two-run home run from Weaver in the seventh. North Carolina squelched the seventh-inning rally, however, to take the victory.
