Virginia Falls 74-61 to Central Michigan

The Virginia women’s basketball team (2-3) fell 74-61 to Central Michigan (4-1, 0-0 MAC) on Saturday (Nov. 24) at John Paul Jones Arena in the opening game of the Cavalier Classic Tournament, presented by DoubleTree by Hilton of Charlottesville.

Sophomore guard Brianna Tinsley (Madison, Va.) scored a career-high 16 points, including going 4-of-7 from three-point range. Senior forward Mone Jones (Durham, N.C.) grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, scoring eight points. Central Michigan’s Presley Hudson led all scorers with 22 points, scoring 19 in the second half. Central Michigan shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) while the Cavaliers were 22-of-66 (33.3 percent). The Chippewas held a 38-32 edge in rebounding.

Central Michigan went on a 12-0 run in the first quarter, building up a 36-21 halftime lead. The Cavaliers trailed by as many as 28 points in the game, but outscored Central Michigan 27-16 in the fourth quarter to cut into that deficit.
