Tony Bennett has reached out to a second backcourt prospect in the course of two days, making an offer Tuesday to one of the top players in the state of Virginia.

Davin Cosby Jr., a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Benedictine in Richmond, announced on social media that he had received an offer from UVA. The Class of 2023 prospect played for Team Loaded VA 17U this past summer and watched as his recruiting picked up considerably.

On Monday, Bennett extended an offer to Trey Green, the No. 14 point guard in the nation according to 247Sports composite. Green is a 5-foot-10, 4-star, also in the Class of 2023. He is from the Charlotte, N.C., area, but plays for Link Academy in Branson, Missouri (see related story on this site).

Cosby, rated the No. 31 shooting guard in the country by 247Sports composite, is ranked the No. 4 prospect in the state.

While Virginia offered Tuesday, the Cavaliers were not the first to go after Cosby, who also holds offers from Wake Forest, Alabama, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M, West Virginia, LSU, Cal, Maryland and NC State.

Cosby said that Alabama and Wake have contacted him the most, and he has scheduled visits for both in August and September.

He said he will narrow his list of schools on Aug. 21 — his birthday — and announce his choice on Jan. 11, his father’s birthday. You can check out some of Cosby’s highlights below.

In other UVA basketball recruiting news, the Cavaliers are showing interest in 6-4 guard (Class of ‘24) Jalil Bethea, who plays for Christ the King out of Middle Village, N.Y.

According to Andrew Slater, director of scouting from ProInsight, Virginia has shown interest in the guard, who shot 40 percent from 3-point range during the recent EYBL season, while Villanova, UCLA, VCU and Temple have made offers to Bethea.

Also, Elmarko Jackson, the 6-3 point guard from South Kent, Conn., said Tuesday that he will announce his final list of schools within the next few weeks, followed by official visits, and plans to announce his commitment in the fall.
