Virginia has thrown its hat in the ring for Class of 2024 point guard Dedan Thomas Jr., of Las Vegas.

Thomas, whose father ranks sixth all-time in assists at UNLV, is a 4-star and considered by some observers as the top pure point guard in the country. 247Sports consensus has him as the nation’s No. 38th-ranked overall prospect in the country for his class, the No. 5 point guard and the No. 2 prospect in Nevada. Rivals ranks him No. 34 overall in the country.

UVA jumped in late on Thomas, who already holds offers from Arizona, Florida, Houston, Gonzaga, Stanford, Cal, UCLA, UNLV, USC, Miami, LSU and Washington State. He is visiting Florida this weekend and recently took an unofficial trip to UCLA. Thomas also has a Sept. 30 visit set for Houston and is considering trips to Gonzaga and Arizona.

Known as a true floor general who is a great passer, Thomas averaged 13.3 points and 5.6 assists, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor last season in leading Liberty High in Hendersonville, Nev. He also plays for the AAU team Dream Vision 17U.
