Virginia first-year cross country performer Margot Appleton has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Women’s Co-Freshman of the Week following UVA’s XC23 Invitational.
Racing at Panorama Farms, Appleton (Mattapoisett, Mass.) turned in a runner-up performance on the 5k course with a time of 17:13.8 to help the Cavaliers to a second-place finish.
She becomes the second Virginia runner to receive the award this season. Fellow first-year Mia Barnett was honored after winning the Virginia Invitational in September.
The Cavaliers return to competition on Oct. 29 when they race at the ACC Championships set to take place at Notre Dame.
