By Jerry Ratcliffe
Today we are asking our readers for your support as we move JerryRatcliffe.com from a completely free website that covers your Virginia Cavaliers and the ACC to a subscriber-based website that will continue to bring you everything Wahoo. We need your support in order to stay in business and continue to do what we do best.
Heading into our eighth year as an independent website after 40 years of strong sports journalism in the newspaper industry, we are depending on our faithful readers and new readers alike to support his endeavor to deliver you the best and most complete coverage of your favorite team.
Why go to a pay site? A couple of reasons, but chiefly to remain in business from a financial standpoint. While we are off to a record-setting year in terms of readership and listenership to our podcasts, “free” doesn’t pay the bills.
It costs money to cover college athletics, more now than ever. We have depended on advertising to support the site and we thank and appreciate all those who have advertised in the past and those who presently and continue to advertise. However, advertising is fickle and too inconsistent, thusly forcing us to explore a pay wall.
We have been encouraged by other similar sites around the country over recent years to transition from free to pay site as they have done in order to not only survive, but thrive. Most every site worth reading these days has made that conversion. Now, it’s our turn.
After much research and discussion, we couldn’t prolong the inevitable and we kindly ask your support going forward in purchasing a subscription for yourself or buying a gift subscription for your friend(s) or family member(s) who follow the Cavaliers.
This has been a banner year for Virginia athletics thus far with a football team that finished in the nation’s Top 25, a men’s basketball team that is ranked No. 11 in the nation, a successful women’s team and the great Olympic sports programs that distinguish UVA from most.
