Weekly Gridiron Picks Sponsored By Riverside Lunch: Week 12

In football, George Welsh used to say “they remember November.”

In football picks, they say “every blind pig finds an acorn every now and then,” which would fully explain how Hootie is in first place heading down the home stretch. Obviously, he has stumbled into a lot of acorns along the way.

Somehow, he holds a four-game lead on his nearest competitor, Mark “King of the Corner” Mincer, while Scott German of Augusta Free Press and Scott Ratcliffe of hootie.com are locked in a battle in third place, five games back.

Gary Shook, president of Blue Ridge Bank, is hanging tough in fifth place, while Chris Graham of Augusta Free Press, who is still basking in the glory of his Washington Nationals’ World Series Championship, is in sixth, just ahead of our Pigskin Picks sponsor Lee Shifflett, of Riverside Lunch downtown.

How to Play:

We’ll pick every ACC game all season long, plus the best of the rest from around college football (20 total games per week).

Fans can submit their own picks (sent to weeklygridironpicks@gmail.com, with “WEEK 12 PICKS” in the subject line) no later than 6:59 p.m. ET Thursday.

Tiebreaker:

Predict the score of the UVA game (since the ‘Hoos are on a bye week, this week’s tiebreaker matchup is Wake Forest at Clemson):

Fans will predict the final score (i.e. Virginia 35, Opponent 21 … that fan’s total score for the tiebreaker would be 56). The fan whose total score is closest to the actual total score will be declared the winner. If somehow two or more fans have the same total score (or are the same distance from the total score), the fan who is closer to UVA’s score will win (We will use Clemson’s score this week).

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST include a tiebreaker with your entry, or it will not be eligible to win.

Prizes:

The weekly winner will receive a gift certificate from Riverside Lunch and will automatically qualify to compete for the grand prize (TBA soon) during bowl season, beginning in December.

If a fan is named the weekly winner, he/she may still compete in the remaining weekly contests, but will not be eligible again for the weekly prize.

Once a weekly fan winner is determined, we will contact them via the email address they used to submit their picks to redeem their prize!

Weekly Winners:

Congratulations to Jerry Kidd, our Week 11 winner! After a few runner-up finishes already this season, Mr. Kidd kept knocking and finally came out on top by a game over Darren McCauley (who has had a couple second-place finishes of his own, but we think he’ll bust through as well over these final three weeks of the regular season).

Jerry will receive a gift certificate to Riverside Lunch and is automatically entered into the Grand Prize bowl pick’em contest, which is just over a month away! We’re down to just three more spots to compete for the whole enchilada (which every Wahoo fan will enjoy, stay tuned), so get your picks in today!
