Weekly Gridiron Picks Sponsored By Riverside Lunch: Week 9

We’re more than halfway through the football regular season and our prognosticators are slugging it out on a weekly basis. Our pigskin picking panel order of finish is as unpredictable and crazy as the ACC Coastal Division race. Only three games (one good week of picks) separates first from worst…

Mark Mincer is as good at picking football games as he is selling UVA sportswear, using a 14-6 week to tie the Ratcliffe Gang atop the panel, all at 116-44, not a bad overall percentage by the way.
Gary Shook is not only good at counting money as president of Charlottesville’s largest bank — Blue Ridge Bank — but also used the best record of the week (15-5) to charge into a tie for fourth with Chris Graham of Augusta Free Press at 114-46.
Meanwhile, Scott German and Lee Shifflett are tied for sixth at 113-47. Shifflett scrambled to get his picks together last week, but turned in the second-best record of the week at 14-6. Three games back with lots of football to be played.
Our latest winner is appropriately named Ray Burger. Is that fitting or what? There are six spots left for weekly winners for the grand prize. Join the fun and send in your picks!

How to Play:

We’ll pick every ACC game all season long, plus the best of the rest from around college football (20 total games per week).

Fans can submit their own picks (sent to weeklygridironpicks@gmail.com, with “WEEK 9 PICKS” in the subject line) no later than 11:59 a.m. ET Saturday. Since we were late getting the picks up this week (sorry!), we have extended the deadline.

Tiebreaker:

Predict the score of the UVA game (or another designated big game if the ‘Hoos are on a bye week):

Fans will predict the final score (i.e. Virginia 35, Opponent 21 … that fan’s total score for the tiebreaker would be 56). The fan whose total score is closest to the actual total score will be declared the winner. If somehow two or more fans have the same total score (or are the same distance from the total score), the fan who is closer to UVA’s score will win (“Team A” if UVA is not playing that week).

IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST include a tiebreaker with your entry, or it will not be eligible to win.

Prizes:

The weekly winner will receive a gift certificate from Riverside Lunch and will automatically qualify to compete for the grand prize (TBD) during bowl season.

If a fan is named the weekly winner, he/she may still compete in the remaining weekly contests, but will not be eligible again for the weekly prize.

Once a weekly fan winner is determined, we will contact them via the email address they used to submit their picks to redeem their prize!

Weekly Winners:

Congratulations to Ray Burger, our Week 8 winner! Ray won in the tiebreaker over Justin Aimonetti after both competitors predicted 15 winners on the week. Virginia’s offensive explosion made a difference, as Ray’s total score of 50 points gave him a slight edge over Aimonetti’s 47.

Ray wins a gift certificate to Riverside Lunch and is automatically entered into the Grand Prize bowl pick’em contest. More than half the field is set! We still have six more spots available, so get your picks in today!
