West Coast power forward Cofie sets Virginia visit for September
By Jerry Ratcliffe
One of the most coveted players by Pac-12 basketball programs announced Tuesday that he has scheduled an official visit to Virginia.
Jacob Cofie, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound (age 17) power forward from Sammamish, Wash., said that he will visit UVA on Sept. 8. He also plans on visiting Ohio State later in the month, and has already made official visits to both Oregon and Washington, although Florida and USC have now entered the race for one of the elite face-up forwards in the class of 2024.
Cofie, who has a 7-foot-1 wingspan, is originally from Charlestown, Mass. A 4-star by On3, ESPN and Rivals, and a 3-star by 247Sports, he’s rated anywhere between the No. 12 and No. 31 power forward in the country for the ‘24 class, and rated one of the top two prospects in the state of Washington.
Cofie told Brandon Jenkins, the national scout and analyst of 247, that Virginia has been heavily recruiting him ever since Peach Jam and contacting him every morning with zoom calls to explain to him how well he would fit into the Cavaliers’ system.
Virginia coaches have also shown him how it has developed its players into NBA prospects. Cofie, who said he likes the attention UVA is giving him, also likes the thought of playing in the ACC.
He likely won’t trim his list until he completes his campus visits in September, but he doesn’t plan on committing until he finishes his senior season next March.
