With the addition of JMU transfer wide receiver Cam Ross on Monday, Virginia’s transfer portal recruiting class has been graded among the top 25 in the nation according to a pair of recruiting services.

Ross, who was UVA’s 17th commitment from the 2025 portal, compiled nearly 1,800 receiving yards and 2,500 all-purpose yards during his career at UConn and JMU. He has one year of eligibility remaining (more on Ross later in the article).

247Sports rated Virginia’s transfer portal recruiting class as the 24th-best in the country, the Cavaliers’ highest ranking among the four services. According to the 247 list, UVA’s transfer class is the fourth-best in the ACC, behind Florida State, Miami and Louisville.

Rivals has UVA’s class ranked No. 25 nationally, but that was prior to the latest two additions to the class (also fourth-best in the ACC).

Meanwhile, On3.com isn’t as high on the Cavaliers’ effort, ranking the class No. 34 in the country and No. 6 in the ACC. ESPN, the other service, doesn’t make its rankings available to non-subscribers.

Ross had a strong 2024 campaign at JMU, playing only one season for the Dukes after starting his career at UConn in 2019, when as a true freshman he was named a Pro Football Focus honorable mention Freshman All-American. During that season, the Newark, Del., native caught a career-high 60 passes for 723 yards and four touchdowns.

For JMU last season, Ross played in 13 games (started 9 times) and hauled in 37 passes for 443 yards and three TDs. He also rushed for 56 yards and was the Dukes’ top kickoff returner, bringing back 13 kickoffs for 366 yards, including a 94-yard TD return against Southern Miss. He was named third-team All-Sun Belt.

Ross, who is 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, joins former Purdue wideout Jahmal Edrine as new receivers at Virginia.

Coach Tony Elliott lost six receivers this postseason via either exhausted eligibility or the transfer portal, including leading receiver Malachi Fields (Charlottesville native, Monticello High School), who transferred to Notre Dame.

Virginia is expected to return Trell Harris, Andre Greene Jr., Kameron Courtney, Suderian Harrison and Eli Wood to its receiving corps.
