Three players with hat tricks pace No. 8 Virginia past George Mason

Nine different players had goals and three finished with hat tricks as the No. 8 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (5-0) won 18-7 over George Mason (1-4) on Wednesday evening at Klöckner Stadium.

Freshman Morgan Schwab (Fairport, N.Y.) led the Cavaliers with a career-high six points, scoring three goals with three assists. Senior Taylor Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) added five points on three goals and two assists and junior Lillie Kloak (Ridgewood, N.J.) added three goals.

Virginia led in shots (43-16), draw controls (20-7) and ground balls (14-6). George Mason had 10 saves and Balsama led the Patriots with three goals.

Virginia scored first with junior Annie Dyson (Alexandria, Va.) finding the net on the assist from freshman Mackenzie Hoeg (Mattituck, N.Y.). It was tied 3-3 with 20:51 to play in the first half. Virginia closed the half on an 8-2 run to lead 11-5 at the half.

The Cavaliers came out and scored the first four goals of the second half. UVA held George Mason to just two second-half goals, with the first coming at the 12:23 mark.
