Women’s Soccer: Five Cavaliers Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Five members of the top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team have been named to the 2019 Academic All-District Women’s Soccer Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Senior forward Meghan McCool (Glenside, Pa.) and sophomore midfielder Alexa Spaanstra (Brighton, Mich.) were voted to the All-District first team. Senior defender Zoe Morse (East Lansing, Mich.), junior midfielder Anna Sumpter (Charlottesville, Va.) and sophomore forward Rebecca Jarrett (Washington Township, N.J.) were voted to the All-District second team.

Honorees selected to the All-District first team advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in December. A combination of academic and athletic performance is evaluated in the selection process at the district and national levels.

To be eligible for consideration for CoSIDA Academic All-District and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have completed one calendar year academically at their institution prior to nomination. Nominees must also be a starter or key reserve who has played in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed on the nomination form and hold a minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
