The No. 11 Virginia women’s tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory against No. 24 Notre Dame on Friday at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort.

Notre Dame won the doubles point and took a 3-1 lead in the match, but the Cavaliers won the final three singles courts to secure the victory on the home court. Hibah Shaikh won the clincher for the Cavaliers.

Virginia (11-3, 4-1 ACC) opened doubles play with a 6-2 victory by Mélodie Collard and Julia Adams on the top court, but the Fighting Irish won 7-5 and 6-2 on courts two and three to secure the point.

After Notre Dame (10-6, 1-4) picked up another point on singles court one, Natasha Subhash got the Cavaliers on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court two against Julia Andreach. The Irish went up 3-1 with a victory on court five before Elaine Chervinsky finished a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory on court two.

The final two singles courts went to simultaneous tiebreakers to decide their second sets. Collard picked up a 7-4 victory in her breaker on court six to tie the match right before Shaikh won her tiebreaker on court four by that same score to secure the victory for the Cavaliers.
