The No. 21 Virginia women’s tennis team defeated No. 18 Clemson, 4-2, on Thursday at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility in Clemson, S.C.

The Cavaliers (10-4, 3-0 ACC) began with a 6-2 win on doubles court three by No. 81 Isabelle Lacy and Kaitlyn Rolls. Clemson (13-4, 3-2) responded with a win on court two, but No. 3 Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang fought to a 7-6 (5) victory on the top court to clinch the doubles point for the Hoos.

No. 70 Yang notched the first singles point for the Cavaliers with her 6-2, 6-3 win on court one. Clemson got on the board with a win on two before No. 96 Martina Genis Salas secured the third point for Virginia with her 6-2, 6-3 victory on four. The Tigers then brought the match score to 3-2 with a win on five as the remaining two courts went to third sets. With Clemson nearing the tying third point on court three, Collard, a fifth-year, ended the Tigers’ hopes of a comeback with her 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win on six to clinch the victory for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers continue their road weekend, taking on No. 59 Georgia Tech on Saturday at noon in Atlanta.
