The wrestling season came to an end on Friday in Cleveland as junior Gable Porter ended his run at the NCAA Championships with a loss in the consolation brackets of the event at Rocket Arena.

Porter, who advanced to the second day of competition by going 1-1 on Thursday, dropped a tight 6-5 decision to No. 21 seed Tyler Wells of Oklahoma. Porter worked his way out to the early lead and held the 4-3 advantage as the bout came to a close, but a takedown by Wells with seconds remaining on the clock to go up 6-4 and seal the bout for the Sooner. Porter held the riding time point for the final 6-5 score.

NOTING THE HOOS

  • Porter was one of three Cavaliers to compete in the event along with Colton Washleski (157) and Brenan Morgan (285).

FROM HEAD COACH STEVE GARLAND

“That one hurt bad; more than most. Gable wrestled so hard and so well. He got tripped with two seconds left. That said, we are proud of him. He competed and represented this program so well. He has so much to build on.”
