Sam Hauser Reportedly Heading To Virginia
By Jerry Ratcliffe
According to reports in the Milwaukee State Journal, sources said that the Hauser brothers are splitting up, and that Sam Hauser has decided that he will finish his college basketball career at Virginia.
Meanwhile, sources told the State Journal that younger brother, Joey, has selected Michigan State.
The two brothers were reportedly leaning toward both signing with Wisconsin after transferring from Marquette at season’s end. They visited the Badgers, Virginia and Michigan State, but no one expected them to split up.
Sam Hauser will have to sit out next season as a transfer, and will have one season of eligibility remaining in 2020-21 for the Cavaliers. He is a 6-foot-8 forward, who played in 101 games at Marquette, including 97 starting assignments. He was a second-team All-Big East selection as a junior, averaging 15.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
Virginia will now await redshirt senior Mamadi Diakite’s decision on whether to return to school or play professionally with some international team. Diakite attended the G-League’s Elite Camp but didn’t perform up to standards and was not invited to stay over for the NBA Combine.
Diakite worked out for the Sacramento Kings and Golden State last week, and was awaiting feedback from those two organizations. Meanwhile, sources indicated that his agent was exploring options in international basketball.
Diakite has until Wednesday (May 29) to withdraw his name for consideration by the NBA Draft and to return to UVA.
