Hauser, Huff and Clark earn All-ACC honors

acc basketball logoThree Virginia players – Sam Hauser, Jay Huff and Kihei Clark – received All-ACC honors on Monday in a vote by a 75-member panel consisting of the league’s 15 head coaches and 60 media members.

Hauser was selected to the All-ACC first team, while Huff was voted second team and the league’s All-Defensive team, and Clark was chosen honorable mention.

Hauser was joined on the first team by ACC Player of the Year, Moses Wright, a senior at Georgia Tech. Rounding out the first team was Pitt’s Justin Champagnie, Louisville’s Carlik Jones, and Duke’s Matthew Hurt.

The All-ACC second team consisted of Huff, Virginia Tech’s Keve Aluma, Georgia Tech’s Jose Alvarado, FSU’s M.J. Walter and Clemson’s Aamir Simms, a native of Fluvanna and a former star at Blue Ridge School outside of Charlottesville.

Third team: RaiQuan Gray, FSU; Isaiah Wong, Miami; Quincy Guerrier, Syracuse; Notre Dame’s Prentiss Hubb, with UNC’s Armando Bacot and FSU’s Scottie Barnes tying for the fifth spot.

Honorable Mention: UVA’s Clark, Georgia Tech’s Michael Devoe, Syracuse’s Alana Griffin, David Johnson of Louisville, Nate Laszewski of Notre Dame, NC State’s Jericole Hellems and Virginia Tech’s Tyrece Radford.

Wright was ACC Player of the Year, while FSU’s Barnes was voted both Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year.

Virginia Tech’s Mike Young was selected as Coach of the Year, beating out Florida State’s Leonard Hamilton by two votes (all voting appears below).

Georgia Tech’s Alvarado was ACC Defensive Player of the Year, beating out UVA’s Huff by a 35-17 count. Most Improved Player in the league went to Duke’s Hurt.

Virginia’s Hauser, who transferred from Marquette and sat out last season, made the most of his senior campaign for the Cavaliers by making the first team. He leads UVA in scoring (15.8 ppg) and tops the ACC in 3-point percentage (44.4), second in made 3-pointers (2.6), fifth in field goal percentage (51.7), eighth in scoring, 13th in minutes player (34.1) and 14th in rebounding (6.8). Hauser posted five games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 24 in the Cavaliers win over Louisville two days, which allowed them to clinch the regular season title.

Huff averaged 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game. He ranks first in the conference in field goal percentage (59.2), second in blocked shots, 12th in rebounding and 19th in scoring, and has posted five double-doubles. He has four or more blocks in six games this season.

Clark was fourth in the ACC in assists (4.5) and sixth in assist-to-turnover ration (2.0).

Both Hauser and Huff received votes for ACC Player of the Year. Hauser finished fourth in the tabulation, while Huff finished eighth.

Virginia coach Tony Bennett finished fourth in ACC Coach of the Year voting.
