No. 9 Virginia loses 17-8 to No. 10 Duke

The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (6-2, 2-2 ACC) fell 17-8 to No. 10 Duke (6-2, 2-2 ACC) on Friday night at Klöckner Stadium.
Junior Lillie Kloak (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the Cavaliers with three goals. Senior Chloe Jones (Slingerlands, N.Y.) had two assists, while five players added a goal.
Virginia had a 15-14 edge in ground balls and had just eight turnovers to 16 for Duke. The Blue Devils led in shots (28-24), draw controls (22-5) and saves (9-8).
Virginia took a 2-1 lead early after Jones found Kloak open in front of the goal and Maggie Bostain (Richmond, Va.) scored. Duke went on a 5-0 run before UVA halted it with a goal by Mackenzie Hoeg (Mattituck, N.Y.). Kiki Shaw (Owings Mills, Md.) scored and Kloak added a goal just before the half as UVA trailed 8-5 at the break.
Duke opened the second half with a 6-0 run. Kloak scored UVA’s first goal in the second half to complete her hat trick. Halle Graham (Rockville, Md.) and Morgan Schwab (Fairport, N.Y.) added goals in the second half.
