The No. 8 Virginia women’s tennis team had its eight-match win streak snapped when it suffered a 4-3 loss at No. 6 Florida State on Friday in Tallahassee, Fla.

Florida State (14-3, 9-2 ACC) led the match 3-0, but the Cavaliers (12-3, 8-2 ACC) rattled off three wins on the top three singles courts to tie the match. The Seminoles picked up a win on court four to secure the victory.

The match began with a very close doubles competition. Natasha Subhash (Fairfax, Va.) and junior Sofia Munera (Pereira, Colombia), playing on the No. 1 court for the first time this season, began the match with a 6-0 victory. FSU countered with a 6-2 win on court three. The middle court was decided in a tiebreaker which the Seminoles won 7-3 to clinch the point.

Florida State built up a 3-0 lead with wins on singles courts five and six. Subhash got the Cavaliers on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win against No. #31 Emmanuelle Salas on court two. Senior Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, Canada) followed moments later with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court three. Freshman Emma Navarro (Charleston, S.C.) finished off a 6-4, 6-2 win against No. 8 Giulia Pairone to tie the match at three, leaving court four to be the decider.

Freshman Hibah Shaikh (Teaneck, N.J.) and Victoria Allen’s first set went to a tiebreaker, with Allen winning it 7-3. Allen took the second set 6-3 to clinch the victory for the Seminoles.
