Welcoming A New Major Sponsor: Dick Myers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat
We are pleased to announce the addition of another major sponsor of JerryRatcliffe.com beginning this wonderful Thanksgiving season as Dick Myers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat of Harrisonburg has joined our team.
Located on South Main Street in Harrisonburg, Dick Myers offers everything a customer could ask for in a dealership.
“Our goal is to run a very above board dealership,” Myers said. “We are faith-based and we believe that’s very important.”
Like our other sponsors (Mincer’s, Hilldrup, Roy Wheeler Realty, Great Harvest Bread Company), Myers’ dealership has been around a long time and loves UVa.
Myers is second generation. His dad started the business in 1954, starting a Ford dealership in Elkton (about 25 miles from Harrisonburg). Dick’s brother, nephew and niece operate that business. Dick bought the Chevrolet dealership in Elkton in 1991 but closed it during the nation’s financial meltdown in 2008.
However, that led Myers to open the new dealership in Harrisonburg in 2007, a booming business that serves the Valley. His son, Andy, is now third generation and helps his dad run the business.
“We’re real proud of our Chrysler store (which sells man other vehicles),” Myers said. “We get a lot of Harrisonburg-area business and some from JMU as well. We celebrate that the family is involved.”
Andy used to work part-time in high school, delivering parts, but after graduating from Bridgewater in 2000, he joined his dad’s team full-time in finance.
“It’s enjoyable working with my dad,” Andy said. “We get along very well. And my cousin is there with us, too.
I can personally testify as to how well the Myers’ treat their customers. I bought a new car from them last May and they have been excellent to deal with. I recommend them to everyone.
Not only are the Myers’ good people, but they’re big Wahoo supporters.
Dick became a Virginia fan back during the last time the Cavaliers made it to the Final Four (1984) and traveled to Seattle with a friend of his to root on Terry Holland’s team. He’s been hooked ever since, and so has his family.
The Myers family can be spotted at nearly every UVa football and basketball game, and often at road games as well.
“You could describe us as die-hard Virginia fans,” Dick said.
When it comes to favorite UVa sports moments, both Dick and Andy agree on their No. 1.
“It would have to be the 1995 win over Florida State,” Andy said. “I remember that game like it was yesterday. Florida State had not lost a game in the ACC (29-game winning streak), so it was a really big deal.”
Dick’s second-favorite moment was UVa’s win over Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski for the ACC basketball tournament championship a few years ago in Charlotte when Joe Harris captained the Wahoos.
“I’m so excited about this basketball team,” Dick said. “I’d love to see us get back to the Final Four. We almost did it a couple of years ago until Syracuse ended that dream in the final minutes. But this year’s team has to be one of the best Virginia teams of all time in my estimation.”
He loved last year’s team as well, which went from unranked in the preseason to No. 1 in the nation.
Meanwhile, Andy is fired up about the football program and what Bronco Mendenhall has accomplished in such a short span of time.
“I’ll be happy when we get back to filling up Scott Stadium again, like we did in the good old days,” Andy said. “It used to be packed for big games. It was more than a game. It was an event.
“I know that’s challenging to do these days, not only at Virginia but everywhere in the country because there are so many avenues to access games,” Andy said. “But I believe it can happen here again and I’m looking forward to it.”
So, Wahoos, when you’re car shopping, remember the no games, honest dealership over the mountain. Give Dick and Andy Myers a try.
We are so proud of our association with these guys.
