Virginia among seven finalists for D.C. forward Caleb Williams

Virginia basketball has made the cut for one of the top forwards in the D.C. area, as Caleb Williams announced his final seven schools on Thursday.

Williams, a 3-star prospect (ESPN rates him a 4-star), said on his Twitter account that he had narrowed his choices to: Virginia, Villanova, Indiana, Syracuse, Georgetown, Miami and Michigan.

Schools that didn’t make the cut included: Virginia Tech, Maryland, Florida State, Notre Dame, Penn State, VCU, Georgia Tech, George Washington and others.

Thus far, the 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward has officially visited Villanova, Indiana, Michigan and Georgetown. He has made two unofficial visits to UVA.

Williams, who plays for Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., is rated the No. 37 power forward in the country by 247Sports and No. 36 by On3.com, but No. 19 in 247Sports’ composite rankings. The composite has Sidwell as the No. 2 overall prospect in the D.C. area, while 247 and On3 rate him as the No. 4 prospect.

There is some dispute by the recruiting services about Williams’ position. Some rank him as a power forward, while others rate him as a small forward in the recruiting class of 2024. 

Williams hasn’t enjoyed a smooth spring in the EYBL games for Team Takeover. He is averaging 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists, while shooting 35.6 percent from the field and 25 percent from the 3-point line.
