Five-star prospect Jarin Stevenson, the top power forward in the country, will announce his college choice on Wednesday.

Stevenson recently narrowed his schools to three: Virginia, North Carolina and Alabama. The 6-foot-10 star hasn’t really hinted where he may end up, but his most recent recruiting visit was to Chapel Hill, which, as he pointed out, is only 15 minutes from his home in Pittsboro, N.C.

“I like how close by it is,” Stevenson told Inside North Carolina in an interview after his visit.”It’s a prestigious school and they have had a lot of great players come out of there. Coach Davis is a great guy and has a great community over there and the players are cool. I got to hang out with them. It’s nice being close to home. If anything goes wrong, I can get help from my parents and family.”

No guarantee Stevenson is leaning that way, but it is his mother’s alma mater, where she played college basketball.

He also pointed out he likes Alabama’s NBA-style offense and Virginia’s defensive emphasis. Still, the fact that Carolina already has the No. 1-ranked recruiting class in the nation is definitely a lure for the home-grown forward.
