The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Thursday that Ethan Dabbs of the Virginia track & field program has been named the ACC Men’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Dabbs won his fourth consecutive ACC title in the men’s javelin becoming the first to ever accomplish the feat. He went on to finish as the NCAA runner-up in the javelin for the second consecutive season earning All-American honors for the third time in his career. His season-best mark of 80.82 meters won the Virginia Challenge setting a meet and facility record. He threw over 72.90 meters in all five competitions over the course of the season.

The Virginia veteran garners the award for the first time in his career becoming the eighth Cavalier to be honored as an ACC performer of the year in men’s outdoor track & field. Dabbs was honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the southeast region’s men’s field athlete of the year.

This marks the second consecutive season in which a Cavalier thrower has won both the ACC Field Performer of the Year award as well as the USTFCCCA Regional Field Athlete of the Year honor after Claudio Romero won both in 2022.

Now at the end of a spectacular career at Virginia, Dabbs holds the ACC, UVA and ACC Championships record in the javelin. He set the mark at the 2022 ACC Championships throwing 82.92 meters (270’0”). Dabbs is a USATF champion in the event and represented Team USA at the 2022 world championships in Eugene, Ore. – the first time the competition was contested on U.S. soil. He will look to challenge for the U.S. title once again at the USATF Championships contested from July 6-9.
