Bennett offers sensational Michigan PG from class of ’26
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Virginia has thrown its hat in the ring for one of the top point guards in the nation for the recruiting class of 2026.
Jonathan Sanderson, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard at Saline High School in Ann Arbor, Mich., announced the UVA offer on his Twitter account on Thursday. He is ranked the No. 44 overall prospect nationally in the class by 247Sports consensus (of the four national recruiting services), No. 6 point guard nationally and the No. 2 overall recruit in the class in the state of Michigan.
The sophomore already holds offers from the Cavaliers, Notre Dame, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Duquesne, Marshall and others, and has taken an unofficial visit to Indiana.
Sanderson’s father, Jon, has been the strength and conditioning coach at Michigan for the past 15 years, and prior to that, was Clemson basketball’s strength and conditioning coach. Jon played hoops for both Ohio State and Ohio U.
Jonathan almost became legendary in Michigan high school circles as a freshman last season when he scored 20 points the first time he stepped on the court for a game. His career high last season was 39 points.

Jonathan averaged 19.3 points per game as a freshman, along with 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. He shot 91 percent from the free-throw line and 46 percent from the 3-point line. All that resulted in Sanderson being named second-team all-state as a freshman in the highest division of Michigan high school basketball.
He also plays for Midwest Basketball Club in the AAU.
Sanderson is the second prospect from the class of ‘26 to be offered by Tony Bennett’s Cavaliers, joining 6-8 forward Latrell Allmond of John Marshall High School in Richmond.
