UVA loses two pitchers to the transfer portal

Virginia’s most dependable reliever is among Cavalier pitchers that have entered the transfer portal.
Chase Hungate and Cullen McKay, both 6-foot-1 right-handers, have left UVA’s program to seek greener pastures. Hungate, a rising senior with one year of eligibility remaining, pitched in 30 games this past season and posted a 7-2 record with 2 saves, a 3.74 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 52 innings.
McKay, who was a former starter in UVA’s rotation, is a rising junior with two years of eligibility remaining. He made five starts early in the season, surrendering 19 earned runs on 15 hits over 17 innings to accumulate a 10.05 ERA. He struck out 25 batters, which raised a few eyebrows, but walked 19.
He lost his starting position in the weekend rotation in early April during UVA’s series win over North Carolina when he was tagged for four runs in the first inning, including four walked batters.
