Virginia coaches closely watching D.C. prospect Dixon

There’s a reason that either Tony Bennett or associate head coach Jason Williford took in every game played by Derek Dixon in Washington, D.C., this past weekend. Dixon is a priority target for the Cavaliers’ recruiting class of 2025.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound combo guard has enjoyed a good offseason playing for Team Takeover on the Nike EYBL circuit and for his Gonzaga High School team. In 10 games for Team Takeover, he has averaged 16 points, 1.8 rebounds an 1.8 assists per game, while blistering the nets with a 60.4 percent field-goal percentage (58-96), 57.5 3-point percentage (23-40) and 87.5 percent free-throw average (21-24).

Virginia offered Dixon back in July of last year and he has since visited UVA and Pitt.

His offers are mounting, with North Carolina joining the party with an offer in late May. He also hold offers from Miami, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Pitt, Penn State, Providence, Xavier, Kansas State, Iowa and others.

The 4-star Dixon is ranked the No. 61 overall prospect in the country for his class in the 247 composite, the No. 13 combo guard and the No. 3 prospect in the D.C. area.
