The No. 9 Virginia women’s tennis team took the first of its two weekend matches, 4-1, over No. 23 Cal on Friday at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley.

The Cavaliers (16-4, 9-0 ACC) are on a 10-match win streak and remain the sole undefeated team in the ACC.

The Cavaliers won the doubles point following a 7-5 win by No. 27 Martina Genis Salas and Annebelle Xu on court two and a 6-4 win by sophomore Isabelle Lacy and freshman Kaitlyn Rolls on three.

Rolls, the reigning ACC Freshman of the Week, kept the momentum going for Virginia, winning the first singles match of the afternoon 6-3, 6-4 on court three. Fifth-year Melodie Collard expanded the Cavaliers’ lead to 3-0 with her 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory on court five.

Cal (9-5, 6-3) got on the board with a win on two, but sophomore Martina Genis Salas then clinched the 4-1 match victory for Virginia with her 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 performance on court six.
