Blue Cain, one of nation’s top shooters, visiting Virginia
By Jerry Ratcliffe
One of the nation’s purest shooters is visiting Virginia basketball this weekend, 4-star shooting guard Blue Cain, sources said.
The 6-foot-4 shooting star from Knoxville, Tenn., reopened his recruiting in March after Georgia Tech dismissed head coach Josh Pastner. Cain was Tech’s lone signed player, but requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent to the Yellow Jackets, which was granted.
Since then, Cain has been contacted by at least a dozen schools hoping to add him to this season’s roster. He has been competing in the Geico Nationals tournament in late March and early April, and is now taking visits.
He averaged 14.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last season for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., finishing up his high-school career there after growing up in Knoxville.
UVA, Auburn, Georgia, Kansas, Florida, Nebraska, South Carolina and others are in pursuit of Cain, who sometimes — get this — wears his blonde hair in a man bun, similar to former Wahoo shooter Kyle Guy, when Guy was a freshman at Virginia.
Prior to signing with Georgia Tech last year, Cain was offered by Tennessee, Houston, Syracuse, Maryland, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
Originally in 2022, Cain, a composite 4-star by 247Sports, was ranked the No. 89 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 12 shooting guard and the ninth-best overall player in the state of Florida in this recruiting class. He has jumped to No. 77 in the nation in ESPN’s Top 100.
