BREAKING: One of UVA’s top portal targets decides to stay home
By Jerry Ratcliffe
One of the transfer portal players Virginia was hoping to sign has apparently changed his mind and will not be making a trip to Charlottesville.
Robert Jennings, a 6-foot-7 forward with three years of eligibility remaining, announced on social media Tuesday night that he will return to Texas Tech, where he played in 30 games (started four) last season. Jennings had narrowed his choices to UVA or returning to Tech, after eliminating Maryland, St. Louis and Utah.
Texas Tech made a coaching change after the season, hiring North Texas coach Grant McCasland, who coached against Virginia in the NIT in 2022. Apparently, McCasland managed to convince Jennings to return to the Red Raiders, where he averaged 2.7 points, 1.9 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per game last season.
Jennings would have been a nice addition to the Cavaliers with three years remaining and a chance to grow his career.
He was believed to have been one of UVA’s top two transfer targets, along with Jordan Minor, a 6-8 power forward from Merrimack, who visited Charlottesville last week.
