Cavaliers begin Monday at IJGA Collegiate Invitational in third place

UVA women’s golfThe Virginia women’s golf team shot 1-under 287 to finish the first round of the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in third place on Sunday. The Cavaliers are the host school for the 14-team event that is being played at Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Baylor, ranked No. 25, leads the field after shooting 3-under 285. No. 8 Stanford is one shot ahead of UVA in second place. The field for the tournament includes six teams ranked in Golfstat’s current top-25 poll. LSU freshman Ingrid Lindblad shot 6-under 66 to lead the field. She entered the tournament as the No. 12 ranked individual player by Golfstat.

Virginia junior Beth Lillie topped the Cavaliers with an opening-round of 2-under 70 to put her in a tie for fifth place. It was Lillie’s lowest round of the season.

UVA freshmen Virginia Bossi and sophomore Haeley Wotnosky are tied for 11th place after each shooting 71. Sophomore Riley Smyth is in 39th place after shooting 75 and senior Julia Ford is 65th at 79. Cavalier freshman Celeste Valinho is also in 39th place with a score of 75.
