Cavaliers sweep VaSID women’s soccer top honors

Virginia swept the top women’s soccer awards from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) and eight players garnered spots on University Division All-State teams.

Sophomore forward Diana Ordoñez (Prosper, Texas) was named Player of the Year, midfielder Lia Godfrey (Fleming Island, Fla.) was named Rookie of the Year and senior goalkeeper Laurel Ivory (Surfside, Fla.) was named Defensive Player of the Year. Head coach Steve Swanson was named the Coach of the Year after guiding the Cavaliers to the College Cup for the third time in his tenure.

Ordoñez led the Cavaliers in points with a team-leading 12 goals and five assists for 29 points on the season. She had a pair of hat tricks and three game-winning goals on the season. Godfrey led the ACC with nine assists and added four goals for 17 points on the way to All-America honors. She was also named ACC Freshman of the Year. Ivory posted five shutouts on the season, including four consecutive shutouts in the NCAA Tournament following the opening game as Virginia made its run to the College Cup.

In addition to the top awards, Virginia placed six players on the first team with forwards Rebecca Jarrett (Washington Township, N.J.) and Alexa Spaanstra (Brighton, Mich.) and defender Claire Constant (Alexandria, Va.) joining Godfrey, Ivory and Ordoñez in first-team honors.

Defenders Lizzy Sieracki (Acworth, Ga.) and Talia Staude (Atlanta, Ga.) garnered second-team honors.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
