Cavs Have Chance To Reverse Road Trend With A Win In Raleigh

Life on the road in the Atlantic Coast Conference has not been particularly kind to the Virginia football program in recent memory, but the Cavaliers have a chance to reverse the trend and make a statement, beginning this weekend in Raleigh.

Wins have been few and far between away from Scott Stadium in conference play for the Wahoos over the past decade. Since the start of the 2008 season, Virginia has a record of 9-31 (0.225) in ACC road games.

A third of those nine wins came in 2011, by far the school’s best year during that stretch. That season under Mike London, the Cavaliers won — in a matter of just four weeks, no less — at Miami, Maryland and No. 23 Florida State.

After defeating the Seminoles in Tallahassee, Virginia was ranked No. 24 (the only time the ‘Hoos appeared in the top 25 since 2007) and competed for a Coastal Division title the following week against No. 6 Virginia Tech.

While things didn’t turn out so well against the Hokies in a 38-0 defeat, the Cavaliers were invited to face Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Bowl and finished with an 8-5 record.
