European 4-star forward has Virginia hoops in his final six

By Jerry Ratcliffe

uva basketballAfter gaining commitments from three of the nation’s Top 100 high school basketball players, Virginia is on the radar of yet another 4-star.

Bobi Klintman, a 6-9 small forward from Sweden, considered one of the most highly recruited European players in the Class of 22, announced his final six schools via Twitter on Sunday evening.

Klintman’s list: Virginia, Kansas, Maryland, Texas A&M, Rutgers and Loyola.

The Swedish star, who will play his final high school season at Sunrise Christian in Kansas, has drawn comparisons to former UVA star De’Andre Hunter, a lottery selection by the Atlanta Hawks in 2019.

“I always try to see what I will get and how they can help me be a better player and person,” Klintman said of colleges recruiting him. “Of course, it is also important if the head coach and the rest of the coaching staff is good.

“I want to know if the school is doing good academically as well, because you always need to have a plan B after finishing with basketball. My recruiting process has been awesome so far. I mean it’s great to have schools calling every day, but it can be a little bit of a stress sometimes, when you have had a bad day. Nevertheless, I am having a great time throughout the recruiting process.”

Klintman didn’t get to play many games in 2020 due to the pandemic, but did average 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds in 30 minutes per game. He made 40 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Virginia offered Klintman on Feb. 19. The Swede didn’t announce a time table for his commitment.
