Virginia field hockey senior back Amber Ezechiels has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week in honors announced on Tuesday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

After being named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5, Ezechiels (Noordwijk, Netherlands) earned defensive honors after UVA picked up three wins in five days, including Friday’s 2-1 road victory at No. 6 Syracuse that snapped the Orange’s nine-game winning streak. The No. 16 Cavaliers also claimed a 5-1 win over William & Mary and a 4-1 decision versus Drexel.

In the win over Syracuse, Ezechiels and the Cavalier defense had to contend with an extra attacker after Syracuse pulled its goalie with 5:29 remaining in the game. With Ezechiels leading the stand, UVA still prevented the Orange from attempting a shot in the final 4:37.

In Virginia’s two non-conference games, Ezechiels led a defensive effort that limited William & Mary to six shots and Drexel to five. Additionally, Ezechiels contributed a pair of goals and an assist during the Cavaliers’ three wins.
