Virginia field hockey senior back Amber Ezechiels has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week in honors announced on Tuesday by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Ezechiels (Noordwijk, Netherlands) scored a pair of goals in the No. 14 Cavaliers’ exciting 3-2 double-overtime win over No. 20 Duke last Friday, including the game-winner with 1:42 remaining in the second OT. Her winning goal came after the Cavaliers’ Adele Iacobucci forced a turnover in the closing minutes of the second OT. Annie McDonough took off on a quick restart, racing through an empty midfield into the offensive zone. She and Ezechiels had a 2-on-1 against a Duke defender. McDonough passed the ball across the circle to Ezechiels, who made a move on the goalie to create an open line to the cage and fired off the shot that ended the game.

Ezechiels, who also scored the first goal of the game, leads Virginia and is tied for sixth in the ACC with five goals this season.

This is Ezechiels’ second career player of the week honor, but her first time earning the nod as the Offensive Player of the Week. She was named the Defensive Player of the Week last spring (Apr. 26). This is the first weekly honor for a Cavalier player this season.
