It had been 1,407 days since former UVA golfer Danny Walker tasted victory on PGA Tour Canada, but he put together four consecutive sub-70 rounds and won with a birdie on the first playoff hole Sunday to claim the Osprey Valley Open in Ontario.

Walker finished regulation at 16-under par, which tied him with Cooper Musselman. The former Cavalier didn’t waste any time settling things, as he sank a five-foot birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the win.

With the victory, Walker jumped to the top of the 500 Fortinet Cup in point standings through four tournaments.

“It was a stressful day,” Walker said. “Cooper was really playing well and pushing me the whole time.”

Walker, who led the second and third rounds, was worried that inclement weather could delay or even end the event, but officials used split tees and moved up the start to beat the rain.

“So it was stressful, but I’m happy to get it done,” said Walker, who also posted a 62 earlier in the tournament.

He entered Sunday with a three-stroke lead and he had to battle to finish regulation in a tie.

“Danny played great,” said Musselman. “I shot 65 today in the final group and still didn’t beat him. That goes to show that he’s a great player, a tremendous competitor and we had a lot of fun out there.”
