Virginia women’s golf coach Ria Scott and men’s golf coach Bowen Sargent announced the 2022-23 schedules for their respective programs on Monday.

The Cavalier women’s team currently has eight regular-season team events and will be making a return trip to the Guadalajara Country Club Collegiate Invitational in Mexico. UVA will play at three NCAA Regional sites (Stanford, NC State and Georgia) during the season.

The men’s team will play 10 regular-season team events, including a trip to Puerto Rico, and will host the second annual Lewis Chitengwa Memorial in April at Birdwood Golf Course.

Women’s Schedule

Last spring at the NCAA Championships, the Cavaliers gathered for a team picture with the Hall of Famer Annika Sörenstam. This fall the team opens its season at her Annika Invitational at Royal Golf Club in Minneapolis, Minn. On Sept. 12-14. Next up for the Hoos will be the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Cavaliers open spring play at the Guadalajara Country Club Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico on Feb. 5-6. Virginia won the inaugural event in 2019 in the team’s final tournament before the pandemic shut down the remainder of the season.

Next up will be a familiar stop for UVA. The Cavalier will compete at the Darius Rucker Invitational at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on Feb. 27-March 1. For the second consecutive season, the event will be broadcast by the Golf Channel.

UVA will play at Georgia’s Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic for the first time since the 2012-13 season. Held at the University of Georgia Golf Course, the tournament takes place March 24-26. The Cavaliers wrap up the regular season with a trip to NC State’s Wolfpack Match Play event at Lonnie Poole Golf Club in Raleigh on April 3-4.

“When players come to UVA, they know that they’ll be playing one of the strongest tournament schedules in the country,” Scott said. “We believe that having the opportunity to test our players against the very best, week in and week out, makes them most ready to compete for championships. This is a schedule that affords them to have some fantastic travel experiences and to compete at some exceptional golf venues.”

The 2023 ACC Championships return to Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. for this year’s event set for April 13-16.

NCAA Regional competition will take place May 8-10 at Georgia, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla, Washington State, NC State, San Antonio, Texas and Westfield, Indiana.

A group of UVA individuals will open spring play Feb. 6-7 at the Thomas Sharkey Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.. The first spring team event is the Dorado Beach Invitational on Feb. 26-28 at TPC Dorado in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico. It is UVA’s first international trip since the 2007-08 season.

Virginia heads to Pinehurst on March 6-7 for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at the legendary Pinehurst No. 2 course.

Virginia competes at some of its traditional spring events in March. UVA plays at the General Hackler in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 13-14 at the Dunes Club. The Linger Longer Invitational is set for March 19-21 at Reynolds Plantation’s Great Waters course in Greensboro, Ga., and then UVA plays at the Augusta-Haskins Invitational at Forest Heights Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

The Cavaliers will be the reigning champions for their second-annual Lewis Chitengwa Memorial that takes place April 10-11 at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville to wrap-up the regular season. The event honors the former Cavalier standout who lettered at UVA from 1995 to 1998.

Last year the Cavaliers won the 13-team event and were led by George Duangmanee’s third-place finish.

“The team is excited to play a such competitive schedule, one that includes some of the best courses in the world,” Sargent said. “To play top 100 courses like Streamsong, Inverness, Maidstone, Pinehurst No. 2 in a season speaks to the level of commitment on behalf of so many people around the country. We are truly honored to have this opportunity. Combine the quality of courses with a top-20 strength of schedule and the upcoming schedule should provide a challenge for our team and assist us in developing as we work towards ACCs and NCAAs.”

The postseason starts with the ACC Championships which will take place April 21-24 in Pinehurst, N.C., at the Country Club of North Carolina.

NCAA Regional play is scheduled for May 15-17 with competition set to be hosted by Auburn, Clemson, Michigan State, UNLV, Oklahoma and San Jose State.
