Glenmore’s Miller charges into VSGA Senior Women’s semifinals

Keswick’s Andrea Miller has been on fire in the 63rd VSGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Homestead Resort’s Old Course.

Miller, a member at Glenmore Country Club, roared into Thursday’s semifinals after routing Charlottesville’s Natalie Easterly, 6 and 5, in a quarterfinal match. Miller’s win prevented Easterly from getting a chance for a third title in the event. Miller has been so dominating that she hasn’t played past the 13th hole since Monday’s qualifying round.

In her first appearance in the Women’s Senior Am, Miller hammered Richmond’s Peggy Freeman, 9 and 7, in the round of 16 before discarding the second-seeded Easterly with ease. In topping Easterly, the No. 7-seeded Miller held a 4-up lead after eight holes and never took her foot off the gas. She birdied Nos. 10 and 12 to go 6-up and advanced when both players bogeyed the 13th.

Miller will take on third-seeded Mimi Hoffman of Springfield in one semifinal match Thursday morning, while top-seeded Shelley Savage of Alexandria will meet No. 5 seed Boodie McGurn of Richmond in the other match.

Savage has won three state titles in the event, in 2005, 2012 and 2013.
