Playing 27 holes due to the threat of inclement weather in the forecast for the Clemson Invitational, the No. 8 Virginia women’s golf team was tied for seventh place when Friday’s play concluded.

UVA shot 18-over 306 during the opening round but stood at 1-under for its next nine holes when the day’s next nine holes were completed.

The Cavaliers’ Virginia Bossi (Como, Italy) shot 3-over 75 to have the team’s best opening round score. Riley Smyth (Cary, N.C.) and Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, Del.) finished at 76 while Beth Lillie (Fullerton, Calif.) shot 79 and Celeste Valinho (Jacksonville, Fla.) posted a score of 80.

Saturday’s second round is set for 10 a.m. but the local forecast calls for thunderstorms.
