The Virginia football program reached into the deep south once again for another stellar Louisiana-bred prospect, as New Orleans 2020 outside linebacker Brandon Williams announced his commitment to the Cavaliers Sunday evening.

Williams, a 6-foot-3, 220-pounder out of Ididore Newman HS, turned down offers from LSU, Miami, Florida, Texas A&M and several other schools. He is rated as a four-star prospect by both Rivals and 247 Sports. He is the 20th-best LB in the 2020 class according to 247, and the 14th-best “weakside defensive end” according to Rivals.

Williams, who was on Grounds this weekend for his official visit, becomes the third player from the state of Louisiana to commit to the Wahoos for the class of 2020, joining DBs Bud Clark and Donovan Johnson.

He made his decision official before even returning home to The Big Easy.

UVA coach Bronco Mendenhall talked in Monday’s press conference about the recent recruiting success he and his staff — namely special teams coach Ricky Brumfield — have had in the Pelican State.

“Ricky Brumfield is our connection to Louisiana, and we have a personnel staff member named Jordan Arcement who is also from Louisiana,” Mendenhall explained. “Those two, if you look at our players that are coming or have come from Louisiana recently, you can trace them to those two coaches or that one coach and one personnel member.

“They’re excellent recruiters. They know the state really well. They have amazing relationships. I thought Mike Hollins was the best running back in the state of Louisiana last year.”
