I’m 0-1 as a college football coach, and yes, after all these years, I’m still pissed about the outcome.

Probably would have never written this piece until I was a guest on a recent sports talk radio show and asked this bizarre question from a caller, totally out of the blue. Well, maybe not totally because we were talking about spring football.

The caller asked, of all the spring football games you’ve covered, do you have a favorite?

Now, I’ve been around the block a few times and have covered spring football games over the years at Virginia, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech, mostly at UVA. Had it not been for one game in Charlottesville, I would have answered no, because for the most part there’s little to get excited about at spring football games.
