Jerry Ratcliffe interview with Gene Corrigan

By Jerry Ratcliffe

In the spring of 2018, I had the wonderful opportunity for a long sit down interview with legendary Gene Corrigan to talk about his unique career. It was supposed to be the first in a year-long series of podcasts with Cavalier legends, but the project never really got off the ground.

Accompanying this short introduction is that 73-minute podcast with the free-spirited Corrigan, who sadly passed away Saturday morning in Charlottesville. He was 91.

I hope you will enjoy this interview, believed to be the last sit down with the iconic figure. Not only were his answers informative, but entertaining. Part of Corrigan’s charm was that he never took himself too seriously, only one reason people loved and admired him.

This is completely an unedited version, so the lady’s voice you will hear from time to time throughout the interview is good friend Sarah McConnell, executive producer and host of “With Good Reason,” a podcast for the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Sarah was giving me some coaching to enhance the podcast, which has never been published until today.

Enjoy.
