Des Kitchings doesn’t have anything against Virginia place-kicker Will Bettridge, but would rather not see him too much this fall when the Cavaliers get into the Red Zone.
One of the big points of emphasis in spring football has been being more efficient offensively in the Red Zone. In other words, more touchdowns, less field goals.
“We believe we’ve got to take another step in that area and score for touchdowns down there as opposed to kicking,” Kitchings said. “Will’s been with us for a while, but he don’t need to set any more records.”
Virginia’s offensive coordinator was correct. Bogging down in the Red Zone was a problem at times, especially considering how many close games the Cavaliers played during a record 11-wins season.
