Local golf raffles support “Fore the Kids” UVA Children’s and First Tee Virginia Blue Ridge (great prizes)
By Jerry Ratcliffe
There are two very important raffles available to golfers that support a pair of major fundraising events for two causes dear to our hearts here at JerryRatcliffe.com.
One is First Tee Virginia Blue Ridge, which uses its raffle (trips to Pebble Beach or Pinehurst) to financially back its year-long program to our area. The other is the second annual “Fore the Kids” golf tournament and raffle (Boar’s Head/Birdwood, Keswick, Farmington, all detailed below), which supports the UVA Children’s Family Centered Care programs.
The “Fore the Kids” tournament is set for Monday, June 27, with a 10 a.m. shotgun start at Birdwood Golf Course at Boar’s Head Resort. A reception and an awards ceremony follows the golf.
All proceeds of the tournament and raffle go to supporting UVA Children’s Family Centered Care programs, supporting the basic needs of families during their child’s stay in the hospital.
Other than the tournament, the raffle features only 375 tickets at $100 per ticket. Prizes: two nights at Boar’s Head Resort and round of golf for four at Birdwood Golf Course; Round of golf for four at Keswick Hall and golf course; Round of golf for four at Farmington Country Club.
There are several sponsorship opportunities available as well.
UVA Children’s has more than 120,000 pediatric visits annually and last year, more than 5,000 patient families drove two or more hours to receive care. The Family Centered Care programs provide support for these families ranging from transportation, gas, food vouchers, lodging, emotional support and access to child life specialists.

First Tee Virginia Blue Ridge is holding its annual “Great American Golf Trip Raffle,” which supports programming for the year of the Charlottesville area chapter.
There are 500 raffle tickets available for $100 each. The winner has a choice of two trips or a cash prize.
The winner (a trip for four) gets to choose either a trip to Pebble Beach, three rounds of golf at Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Spanish Bay (three nights accommodation and $1,000 per person travel allowance); or four rounds of golf, including one round on Pinehurst No. 2, four nights accommodation and $1,000 per person travel allowance.
The raffle is an important fundraiser for First Tee Virginia Blue Ridge and proceeds allow the organization to help area youth become better versions of themselves.
